The Dwayne Johnson disaster film “San Andreas” reigned over the weekend box-office, grossing over $54 million for the three days, the best opener ever for the former WWE star. In fact, Warners initially underestimated the weekend B.O. — that almost never happens — with the film coming in 3% above the figure reported on Sunday. With an A- Cinemascore from opening-night audiences and no action-movie competition until “Jurassic World” on June 12, it’s clear sailing for “San Andreas” for at least one more weekend.

Even more amazing about San Andreas this weekend: west coast crowds enjoyed watching themselves being decimated onscreen. Nineteen of the top 20 grossing theaters were in either San Francisco or Los Angeles.
