I’m so sorry to have to subject you to another day in Trump World, but Tuesday was a doozie that cannot be ignored.
- Day 5 of Trump’s inexplicable vendetta against the Khan Family continued unabated. Just insane. With all of the many arguments against the Democrats that he could use now to win the election, he continues to ignore them so he can focus on this personal grudge. One wonders why Trump possibly thinks that this line of attack will attract any voters, but it’s likely he doesn’t care. He has to be right.
- Trump was presented with a Purple Heart at a Tuesday rally from a veteran who wanted him to have it. Under other circumstances that gesture might be touching, but given a stretch where he attacked the parents of a deceased veteran, the timing is suspicious. And his response to that veteran’s Purple Heart gift was as tin-eared as ever: “I’ve always wanted to get the real Purple Heart. This was much easier.” The chorus of veterans who have earned the Purple Heart was deafening in criticism on Tuesday, led by Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) who received the Purple Heart after losing both of her legs in combat and said that there’s nothing “easy” about earning the Purple Heart.
- Coincidentally, Trump’s ineligibility to win a Purple Heart because he did not serve echoed a damning New York Times front-page article on Tuesday, challenging Trump’s long-time assertion that he simply had too high a draft number to serve in the military with proof that instead he got four educational deferments and one medical deferment for what was called a “bad foot.” Liar.
- In reference to the sexual harassment case at Fox News involving Roger Ailes, Trump was asked what would happen if his daughter Ivanka was sexually harassed at work. Trump responded that he would hope that she would find another career, a statement backed up by Ivanka’s brother Eric on CBS on Tuesday. He would hope that his daughter would find another career if she was sexually harassed by some perv? What about the working women who are sexually harassed every day who can’t afford to “find another career?” It seems that, in Trump World, it’s always the woman’s responsibility to take the hit.
- But enough about Trump. Let’s talk about President Obama. What does he think about Trump? Turns out, not much. In an official press conference with the President of Singapore, Obama, in response to a question, directly answered that Trump was “unfit” for the Presidency, something he said that he would never have said about his previous Presidential opponents, John McCain and Mitt Romney. Citing how often McCain, House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have had to put out statements distancing themselves from Trump’s latest gaffe, Obama had one question to them: “Why are you still endorsing him?”
- Trump made that an even more relevant question late Tuesday when, in an interview with The Washington Post, he flatly stated that Ryan and McCain, both of whom are facing tough primary fights to even get to the general election, will not be getting his endorsement, even though both men have had to swallow hard to endorse Trump. Also not getting the Trump imprimatur is embattled Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), whom the GOP Establishment is desperately trying to save. Trump obviously won’t be getting an “A” on “works well with others.”
- And as the cherry on top, Trump threw a crying baby out of his rally. Really. Too bad there wasn’t a dog there that he could kick.
In any other campaign, the above scandals over a three-month campaign would likely kill it. For the Trump campaign, it was JUST TUESDAY!!!
We’re now into the general election calendar, and Tuesday was only Day 5. We have 97 more days of this nonsense to go. Buckle up.
